Art Lessons & Workshops

Classes are held for two hours each week and include basic supplies. Students should bring these supplies for each class. They are encouraged to practice what they have learned in class, at home and then to bring that work back to class. Classes are tuition based each month at $250. Private classes are $425 per month. Students should bring a snack and a drink, a smock and wear closed toe shoes. Here is a list of some of the things I hope to share with students young and not so young!

Beginning Drawing

You don’t need to be artistic to learn how to draw! This class is an introduction to drawing and will teach you the fundamentals of drawing including how to select your pencils, erasers and paper, how to draw outlines, shapes, shading and color, eventually adding perspective and composition. No previous experience is necessary.

Drawing

This class is a continuation of Beginning Drawing and is for the artist with some experience. In addition to drawing with pencils, we will add the mediums of colored pencils and charcoal, possibly moving to pastels. Students will continue to draw outlines, shapes, shading and color, with perspective and composition while adding structure to the composition.

Painting with Acrylics

Some drawing experience for this class is a plus, but not necessary.  Painting with Acrylics will explore how to develop an artist’s eye to compose an image, create light and space, understand perspective, learn how to mix colors, use a variety of brush strokes and methods of holding the brush. Still lifes, working from photographs and weather permitting, we will capture nature on the canvas outside.

Painting with Watercolors

Some drawing experience for this class is a plus, but not necessary. Painting with watercolors can be extremely rewarding, yet challenging. Students will learn how to use washes, mix colors, the types of brushes and strokes, as well as composition, and depth of field. Still lifes, working from photographs and weather permitting, we will capture nature on the canvas outside.

**If there is interest, Dave will consider adding a sculpture class.

August 15-17, 2018

Day 1: Drawing - Have you always wanted to learn to draw? Have you wanted your children to learn to draw? I’ve always believed that ANYONE can learn to draw, so let’s get started! We begin by drawing outlines and learn to add shading and a third dimension. We will explore shapes and color, and then will add perspective and composition.

Day 2: Painting with Acrylics - The color wheel, how to hold the brush, paint consistency, mixing colors, adding color to your artwork. We will begin with scribble art so that you can learn what color combinations go together and what color combinations you like. We will then move toward painting a small still life.

Day 3: 3-D Art-Paper Sculpture - We will cut out and assemble 3-D geometric shapes, then assemble those shapes into a form or sculpture. Time permitting, we will paint that form.

Wire Sculpture - We will learn how to make simple creatures with wire.

Returning Vacation Program students will be given more advanced projects.
